Happy 98th Birthday to Holocaust survivor and Bal Harbor, Florida’s famous Zay-D! Irving Hoine (Yitzchak Leib Ben Chai Perel) was born in Warsaw, Poland. He, along with his father and brother, escaped the Warsaw Ghetto, while his mother and sisters sadly met their fate at the concentration camps. Throughout his journey to the US, he learned to speak seven languages: Polish, Yiddish, Spanish, English, Hebrew, German, and Russian. No matter where he went, he always stayed a faithful and observant Jew and, until recently, was a shabbas regular at The Shul of Bal Harbour. Today, you can find Zay-D drinking a coffee or tea, singing Yiddish songs from his childhood and sharing his favorite piece of advice: “Don’t worry about it!” #MazalTov This video is Zayde meeting his first great-grandchild for the first time.
