I woke up this morning to heartbreaking news. The world has lost another special soul, this time it is our friend Simcha Elazar Jessel.

You may not know Simcha personally but you know his work. Simcha started Humans of Jerusalem (the real one!) and to call it a passion project would not fully capture what the page and it’s work meant to him. He was a talented photographer and wordsmith who found a way to capture unique moments and pair it with a poetic and clever caption that would come together as a brilliant masterpiece. I was fortunate to have connected with Simcha a few years ago as our pages had natural synergies, (Humans of Judaism and Humans of Jerusalem), we did so many projects together, I always knew that I was in the presence of greatness.

To have known Simcha is to know he was a man of great passion and strength, he was creative and brilliant and so mutli-talented.

It is profound to lose Simcha on the eve of Yom HaZikaron and Yom HaAztmaut, he was a lone soldier who shared his love for Israel with the world.

I am truly devasted and will miss him so dearly. I will never forget you Simcha and will work hard to help your legacy live on through your work.

Goodbye to one of my favorite Humans, goodbye dear friend.
