This is a picture of my Grandmother Musha Litvin, a Russian immigrant, who entered the United States on July 4, 1923, exactly 100 years ago, aboard the ship Homeric. Her brothers Alex and Morris came to the US earlier and started the Hulet Body Company, a successful auto parts company. They sent for little sister, Musha, brought her to Detroit, Michigan, and introduced her to a young butcher, Koppel Steinberg. They married and had two children, Fay and Hyman. Fay was an accomplished reading teacher and Hyman became an economist.
