“This is a picture of my mother holding my granddaughter, her great granddaughter. This was made possible by Maria and Stefan Magenheim because they made it possible for me to survive, and live to have grandchildren. The number is from Auscswhitz. My family refers to this picture as ‘Am Yisroel Chai.’” -William Donat
William Donat survived the Holocaust thanks to Maria and Stefan Magenheim, a Christian couple who agreed to take the Jewish boy into their home and conceal his identity. After the war, William was reunited with his parents, who miraculously survived a series of concentration and slave labor camps after being deported to Majdanek from the Warsaw Ghetto. Maria and Stefan were honored as Righteous Among the Nations in 2009.
