“During the Shoah, I tried to save as many people as possible. I led a double life as a student and a forger. I had become the specialist for forged documents and fake IDs. All of this, to make sure that some of these people would get by. I saved about a hundred people.
The 8th of January, 1944 was an important day. My classmate who was my boss had been arrested the night before. I hadn’t been warned and the next day, after school, I stumbled across two policemen as I entered the factory in which we forged documents. I was arrested by the chief of the PPF in Lyon and was handcuffed. I had to endure violent questioning and they tortured me.

“Pendant la Shoa, j’ai essayé de sauver le maximum de personnes. J’ai mené une double vie puisque j’étais à la fois étudiant faussaire. J’étais devenu le spécialiste des faux papiers et des fausses cartes d’identités. Tout cela pour faire en sorte que la plus part des gens s’en sortent.
J’ai sauvé une centaine de personne environ.
Le 8 janvier 1944 fut un jour marquant.
Mon camarade qui était mon chef s’est fait arrêter la veille. Je n’avais pas été prévenu et le lendemain en sortant de l’école, je vais dans l’usine de faux papiers et je tombe en face de deux miliciens. J’ai été arrêté par le responsable du PPF à Lyon, on m’a mis les menotes. J’ai suivi un interrogatoire très musclé et ils m’ont torturé.”
