Holocaust survivor and founder of Kleinfeld Bridal, Hedda Kleinfeld Schachter passed away at the age of 99. Hedda Kleinfeld was born in Vienna Austria in 1924. Hedda’s family settled in Brooklyn in the early 1940’s. Her father opened a Fur Store named Kleinfeld’s, which is where Hedda met Jack Schachter. The two soon married and together expanded the store to carry suits, cocktail dresses and eventually bridal. In 1969 Hedda introduced wedding dresses from European designers and in the late 1970’s the store began to focus exclusively on Bridal. Hedda and Jack retired from the business in the 1980’s. The popular bridal boutique is known as a New York institution and gained global fame when it was featured on Say Yes to the Dress. A bridal legend, may her memory be a blessing.
