My Grandma is super close to me. She is almost 100, a Holocaust survivor, and was recently discharged from the ICU into Hospice after surviving COVID-19. She is one of my favorite people on this planet and just being able to go to her house to visit her in person again is a terrific feeling. She is hard of hearing so we typically write notes to her on a whiteboard and she will respond. After about 15 minutes of chatting, Brad took the white board from me and said he wanted to write something. He wrote a note to her that said, “Nicole loves you sooo much!” She said, “I know!!”
Then he wrote another note, “You are her favorite person!” Sassily she responded, “I know!! And she is mine!!” And then he took the board back and wrote a slightly longer note, and pivoted away from me and handed the board back to her. Her face lit up. Then I caught glimpse of the note. He had written, “So I am happy you will witness our engagement.” Naturally, the tears started flowing and before I knew it he was down on one knee with my dream ring. I can’t express the happiness I felt!
Witnessing the engagement seemed to breathe life back into my Grandma. She was dancing in her bed and cheering “Mazel tov! Mazel tov!” I hadn’t seen her so happy and lively in a long time, especially after the toll Covid-19 took on her body.
My parents entered in shortly after and we all got to celebrate together. I couldn’t have dreamed of a better proposal, and still am feeling so blessed that Brad was so thoughtful about what would make me the happiest girl ever!
