“Finally, this year, on Erev Rosh Hashanah, she acquiesced. She posed in her home in New Jersey for a few photos that are reminiscent of professional head shots she took when she was about my age, more than 60 years ago. I asked her what she hoped for in the new year.

“What do I hope?” she responded. “I hope for health. I’m 91-years-old, Gavile. My life has been very good to me. I’d like to believe I’ve been good to it.”

Shana tovah! I wish you a healthy, happy, beautiful new year.” – Gavi Elkind
