Oldest living Pearl Harbor survivor and WWII veteran, Joseph Eskenazi, celebrates his 105th birthday this month. Eskenazi was born January 30, 1918 in New York to a Sephardic Jewish family. He enlisted in the U.S. Army several months before Pearl Harbor was attacked and is the oldest living veteran to survive.
Here he holds a photo of his younger self, at an event celebrating his upcoming birthday at the National World War II Museum in New Orleans.

“I’m not wise, but all I can say is I hate war, and I hate what happens to people,” he said. “I don’t care who they are or what they are, as long as they’re humans we shouldn’t be attacking one another. Instead, be a nice person; be a good person.”
