Jerry Seinfeld Birthday

What’s the deal with birthdays?

Jerry Seinfeld was born in Brooklyn on April 29, 1954. His parents were both orphans and married when they were in their 40’s; his father Kalman was of Austrian descent, known to have collected jokes while serving in WWII and his mother Betty Hesney was the daughter of Syrian Jews from Aleppo.

Jerry describes himself as growing up in a Jewish home, “Went to temple, kept kosher, two sets of dishes.” As a teenager, in 1971 he volunteered on a kibbutz in Israel.

In 1976 the comedian made his stand-up debut and in 1981 he appeared on The Tonight Show. By the late 1980’s Seinfeld was one of the highest-profile stand-up comedians in the US. He soon teamed up with Larry David to co-create the TV Sitcom ‘Seinfeld’, which first aired on July 5, 1989.

“The greatest Jewish tradition is to laugh. The cornerstone of Jewish survival has always been to find humor in life and in ourselves.” – Jerry Seinfeld #MazalTov!
