Shaul Ladany was born on April 2, 1936. In 1944, at the age of 8, he was sent to a concentration camp. After surviving the Holocaust, he and his family moved to Israel in 1948. In 1972, he was one of the five Israeli athletes who survived the tragic Munich Massacre at the Olympic Games, where eleven of his teammates were murdered.
Ladany is a two-time Olympian in racewalking, having competed in the 1968 and 1972 Olympic Games. He set a world record in the 50-mile race walk in 1972 and is a former world champion in the 100-km race walking event.
Throughout his career, Ladany won 28 national titles in Israel, and in 2012, he was inducted into the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame. Today, he is celebrating his 88th birthday. #MazalTov!
