Gerda Weissmann Klein was born in Poland on May 8, 1924. She documented her experience during the Holocaust in her 1957 book, ‘All But My Life’. In 1995, the memoir was adapted into the movie, ‘One Survivor Remembers’, which earned both an Academy Award and Emmy Award.
Throughout her life, Gerda was an advocate for Holocaust education and human rights and served on the governing board of the US Holocaust Memorial Museum. Her testimony is featured in a permanent exhibit at the museum. Gerda passed away in Phoenix, Arizona in April 2022 at the age of 97.
