Rabbi Steinsaltz was born July 11, 1937 in Jerusalem. Best known for translating the Talmud Bavli in 1965 from Aramaic to Hebrew, English, Russian and various languages. Rabbi Steinsaltz was known as a modern day Torah scholar and commentator, often compared to Rashi. As a teenager, he joined Chabad and studied the teachings of the Lubavitcher Rebbe. He is survived by his wife Sarah, 3 children, 18 grandchildren and numerous students around the world. BDE may his memory be a blessing.
