The Beautiful Nyíregyháza Synagogue, Hungary
The synagogue of Nyíregyháza in eastern Hungary, built between 1924 to 1932, is the last surviving synagogue in town.
The beautiful synagogue features a colorful interior adorned with intricate iconographic motifs, including depictions of Solomon’s Temple in Jerusalem and the 12 Tribes of Israel.
In 1959, murals commemorating Nyíregyháza‘s two other synagogues – destroyed by the Nazis – were painted on its walls, creating a permanent memorial to what was lost.
The synagogue continues to serve the small remaining Jewish community. The Hupah (wedding canopy) was last used 5 years ago, underscoring the challenges faced by the dwindling community.

בית הכנסת היפייפה של נירג׳האזה, הונגריה
בית הכנסת של נירג׳האזה במערב הונגריה, שנבנה בין השנים 1924-1932, הוא בית הכנסת האחרון ששרד בעיר.
פנים בית הכנסת מעוטר במוטיבים איקונוגרפים צבעוניים, בכללם סצינות שמציגות את בית המקדש בירושלים ו-12 שבטי ישראל.
ב-1959 נוספו לקירות בית הכנסת ציורי קיר עם דיוקנם של שני בתי כנסת אחרים שהיו בעיר ונהרסו ע״י הנאצים, וכעת משמרים את שאבד לעד.
בית הכנסת ממשיך לשמש כיום את הקהילה היהודית הקטנה שנותרה בנירג׳האזה. בחופה שבו השתמשו לאחרונה לפני 5 שנים, מה שמדגיש את אתגרי הקהילה שמתדלדלת.
