Since then, the days and nights have blurred together, with no beginning and no end. At one point, I arrived on the scene, and in front of me lay a stretcher with a body dressed in a firefighter’s shirt. I immediately realized—this is the ex-wife of the firefighter who worked with us side by side to find her and their daughter. His friends saw me and dropped everything.
