Holocaust survivor Samuel Beller was born in 1927 in the Polish town of Oświęcim, also known as the location of the Auschwitz concentration camp. He was in several slave labor camps, ghettos, and sent on a death march before being liberated by American troops. Samuel was the only member of his family to survive. Last night, he lit the menorah on the final night of Hanukkah at his home in Brooklyn, NY. Lighting the menorah reminds us that even the tiniest bit of light can shine through the darkness, and that our precious survivors, against all odds, emerged from the darkness into the light of hope and renewal.
