Our Grandma Minia Gdanski celebrated her 97th birthday in Fort Lee, NJ!! Minia Gdanski was born on July 20, 1924 in Bedzin, Poland. Minia was only 14 years old when the war broke out in 1939. When the Germans invaded Poland in 1939 Minia was terrified. Minia was put into the Bedzin ghetto in 1940 along with her 2 sisters Goldie and Miriam Rivka and her parents. Minia was left alone in 1942 when the Germans took her parents and her sister Miriam to Auschwitz. She was liberated in 1945 by the Russians and placed in a deportation camp in Germany where she was reunited with her only surviving relative, her sister Goldie.
Fast forward 74 years my Grandma Minja is a spunky full of life 97 year old living in Fort Lee, NJ surrounded by 6 Grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren and one Great Great granddaughter Malkie (named after her mother) We feel so blessed that we can visit our grandmother every day and enjoy the everyday moments like the visits to her favorite cafe in her building.
