Vladimir, my 92 year old friend, has a place of honor in Jewish and human history.
During World War II, when Jews across Europe became a living target, Vladimir and his family hid and fed an entire Jewish family for two and a half years!
And this is despite, they did not personally know the family, although at any moment they risked immediate death if they were discovered, and although they lived in a small village where the doors don’t lock and everyone knows everything about everyone.
“Why did you risk so much? And more for people you don’t know? “I asked Vladimir.
“Mother and father told us that we are humans, God’s creatures, and so are the people we help save their lives. The world has gone crazy, but we will remain human!”.
