Reverend André and Magda Trocmé

On August 30, 1942, pastor André Trocmé urged the congregants in his overflowing church to “Do the will of God, not of men”. When the deportations began in France in summer 1942, he urged his congregation to give shelter to any Jew who should ask for it. “These people came here for help and for shelter. I am their shepherd. A shepherd does not forsake his flock… I do not know what a Jew is. I know only human beings.”

On January 5, 1971 Yad Vashem: World Holocaust Center, Jerusalem recognized the Reverend André Trocmé and his wife, Magda, as Righteous among the Nations.
