Oldest Known Holocaust Survivor Passes Away

Condolences: Rose Girone, the oldest Holocaust survivor, has passed away. She celebrated her 113th birthday last month, making her the oldest known Holocaust survivor in the world.

Rose was born in Janov, Poland, on January 13, 1912. She married Julius Manheim in 1938 and was eight months pregnant when the Nazis showed up at her door, arrested her husband, and sent him to Buchenwald concentration camp. Rose eventually managed to escape with her husband and their daughter to Shanghai, China, where they remained until after the war. In 1947, they moved to the U.S. and settled in New York, where she opened two knitting stores in Queens and continued to knit until she was 102.

Rose passed away this week in New York, leaving behind her 87-year-old daughter, Reha. May her memory be a blessing.
