This is the Story of Klara Safran

Klara Safran, born in 1911 in Złoczów, faced significant challenges during WWII. After the Germans occupied her town in 1941, her father was killed in a pogrom, and her husband, Hilel, was executed in a labor camp for organizing an escape. Klara fled with her young son, Roald, hiding in an attic with the help of a Ukrainian teacher. After the war, she lived in displaced persons (DP) camps before moving to Poland with her son. In Kraków, Klara met Naftali Margulies, also a Holocaust survivor. The two married, and together with her son Roald, they emigrated to the United States.

Roald studied chemistry and became a professor at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. In 1981, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry, with Klara proudly attending the ceremony in Stockholm.
