Leonard Marsh was born in Brooklyn to Russian Jewish immigrants in 1933 and grew up alongside his future brother-in-law, Hyman Golden, and friend, Arnold Greenberg.
In the early 1970s, the three men founded a company initially called Unadulterated Food Products, which specialized in bottled natural juices. They later changed the name to Snapple, a blend of the words “snappy” and “apple,” inspired by one of their early popular juice products.
By 1987, the brand had expanded into flavored iced teas, which was a key turning point in the company’s significant success, along with its unique ads and marketing strategies. In 1994, Snapple was acquired by Quaker Oats for $1.7 billion.
