This is Gerald, affectionately known as Papa. Papa was born in 1916, in the East End, where he grew up with his 2 sisters.
As a young man, during the war, Gerald served in the armed forces; he was then awarded for his bravery with a certificate and was mentioned in dispatches.
On Papa’s 100th birthday we celebrated with some kichel and chopped herring. Gerald, as he layed the Tefillin, said the following, β€œIt’s not every day that you put on Tefilllin on your 100th birthday!”
