CONDOLENCES: Yefim Haim Goldberg, a decorated Jewish WWII veteran living in Vladivostok, Russia, passed away on Sunday night at the age of 106.
Goldberg was thought to be the world’s oldest living Jew. Born in 1914 in the small town of Borisov (today a part of Belarus), Goldberg served in the Red Army’s 36th Tank Brigade and was the commander of his platoon. His unit was sent to Berlin to take the Reichstag, the German parliament and seat of the Nazi government. After the war, Goldberg became a sailor and worked for the Far Eastern Shipping Company. He also wrote and published poems throughout his life.
May his memory be a blessing, BDE
