
Happy Birthday! Mel Brooks was born Melvin Kaminsky on June 28, 1926, in Brooklyn, NY. In 1944, Brooks enlisted in the US Army and served in WWII. Following the war, he headed to the Borscht Belt in the Catskill Mountains, where he met Sid Caesar. In 1950, Brooks was hired as a writer for Caesar’s weekly comedy series, ‘Your Show of Shows’. It was there where he worked alongside Carl Reiner, and together, the two created the legendary comedy sketch, ‘2000 Year Old Man’. Brooks and Reiner went on to be best friends for more than seven decades. Reiner passed away three years ago on June 29, 2020.
Mel Brooks is a true comedy legend and has produced some of the most iconic movies in history. In 2001, Brooks joined the EGOT club, having won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony award. Today, the comedy giant celebrates his 97th birthday! #MazalTov
